Covington Georgia Trip 2011 :Part 1

The Dukes of Hazzard Farm House from 1978,

was built in the mid to late 1800's.

This was one of the fastest trips down to Logansville Georgia, that I have ever taken. Lance & I left our home in Ruscom Station, Ontario, Canada at 5:00 PM March 25th 2011. We drove until 2:45 AM, we were about 50 miles from Chattanooga TN, but I was getting tired, so we stopped at a rest stop. We got up at 6:00 AM, and hit the road again.

We arrived at the Dukes Farm House just before 10:00 AM,

after a few detours,

& a quick stop at Wally World for more batteries for the camera.

When we arrived, we were both greeted by Chuck, the contractor, in charge of the demolition of the old farm house, and the Owner of the Property. Chuck was happy to see us, as we had only been able to converse through emails, even though I had his cell number.

This is the closest door that I was able to purchase from the Original Dukes of Farm House that was used in the filming of the first 5 episodes of the Hit TV Show The Dukes of Hazzard, back in 1978. This was in the other room, which I was under the impression, was never used in the filming of the show, but it is still part of the Original House used for the filming. The was one of the main rooms used, beside the Kitchen area, some one has already removed the fireplace area before we arrived. It has been said " That it was Stolen from the house ". The window on the right side, was actually seen in the back ground in the show. I was able to purchase the Window frame from the right side. The white window frame seen in this photo, is the one I purchased for our Museum.

The rocks in this photo, were actual Chimney Stones that have been removed from the home, these stones were actually seen on the first 5 shows, while filming in Georgia area. I purchased 2 of the largest stones that Lance & I could pick up, & place into Cheryl's Poor Dodge Grand Caravan, lol.... These are the Logs from the one side of the home, I bought one full length, it was just over 22' long. I had to have it cut into 2 - 8' lengths, so they would fit into the van. There was also one shorter piece.

with the Dukes Farm House in the back ground.
This photo again, shows the White Window Frame that I bought form our Canadian Dukes Museum.
This was one of the last things for me to buy, after a little dickering with Chuck, I purchased the Fuse Panel Box. I had to get Lance to remove it though. Thanks Lance.

In this photo, if you look real close, you can see the White Window Frame ( left bottom, behind us ), and a Log, and a Chimney Stone that measured over 32" long, 15" wide, & almost 9" thick ( lower right side of the photo ).

Well, before we hit the road, I gave The Owner of the House, & Chuck a Canadian Dukes Museum T Shirt, for all of his help, as he did remove the White Window Frame from me.

Hello All!

Thank you for contacting me regarding Dukes of Hazzards Home Place demolition. I am currently in the early phases of the process. There are several prices I would like to give to you all and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to email me.

Each exterior log will be sold by the foot for $50 a piece.

The tin roof will be sold one square foot at $20 a piece.
The smaller pieces of the granite chimney will be sold for $25 a piece.

The interior boards will be sold in one foot pieces for $15 a piece.

I also have professional pictures as well that can be ordered for $15 a piece(8X10) with the picture of how the home use to look during the filming and a picture of how it looked before I started the tear down process.

April 9,2011 will be the first Saturday that we will do a bulk day where everyone can come buy their piece of history. If you need to work out other arrangements just let me know.

Of course if you would not be able to travel to pick up your piece but you still would like one shipping and handling will be added on your price.

Now, how did we get involved.

Well, it starts way back in October 2010.

Cheryl, ( my wife ), and I just arrived home from Gatlinburg Tennessee, after the HAZZARD RUN, from Nashville to Gatlinburg TN.

I was checking my emails, like I always do when I get home every night after work, but in this case, it was from a long trip.

One email, really stood out. This is what it said.

Paul,

My name is John Keddy. I am the Director of Entertainment for Fallsview Casino Resort in Niagara Falls. As you may or may not be aware we are hosting a TOM WOPAT & JOHN SCHNEIDER concert on the 21^stand 22^nd of January 2011. I picked up one of your cards in Gatlinburg TN last week and noticed it said you rent movie cars. I am curious as to what the cost would be to rent your General Lee for the month of December to put on display in the lobby of our Theatre to create a buzz for the upcoming shows. It would be in a secure sanctioned area, indoors and heated. Please let me know

WOW, I was like, in SHOCK......I went out into the living room & told Cheryl about the email. All she did was smile. So, I returned an email regarding everything. After a few days, I didn't think this was going to come together, as I had not heard anything back. I had sent a few emails back to John, and finally an email came back , in which

" Sorry just tying up to pull this off. I am moving forward with it as if its happening ".

So, I was still excited about having the My General Lee up there with the Bo and Luke Duke, BUT, I was very nervous, as I have never left the car anywhere without me being very close by.

The day finally arrived, Lance, Tonya ( Lance's girlfriend ), and I drove up, with the Motor Home, The Canadian Dukes Museum trailer, with the General strapped down very tight, with Lance following in the van. We left without any problems, but as we got closer to London the weather started to get bad. As soon as we got through London, the weather changed again. It was a good drive up, with out any major issues, unlike other trips.

Wow, what a photo !! The trailer, and motor home with the foundation in the background. The General sat in the trailer for a few hours as we waited to see when he was being unloaded.

Okay, let's drop the door, and get him inside.

The General had some help to get inside with making all kinds of noise.

The doors to the Casino had to be opened to squeeze him in

The Sunday before the first show, we had to go up and load the General back into the Museum trailer. I guess there was a problem with the car being inside during the event, cause both shows were SOLD OUT, that means there will be 3000 Fans there in 2 nights.
